Our focus for 2006/07:
In 2006/07, HeNN is focusing on supporting the "Conflict Impacted Children" in Nepal. Every year, more and more children are losing their lives, their childhood and family support as a result of the ongoing conflict.
HeNN has decided to support the needy children with 100% of your donation going to the targeted group as HeNN works through a Network of volunteers that stretch across the world with a strong and dedicated team in Nepal. (It was for such dedication that HeNN received NAREC [Nepal Council for Economic and Development Research] National Award for social services in Nepal for the year 2005.)

Why?
No matter which direction the bullets come from, the rebels or the military, for those at the receiving end of this ongoing conflict the effects are catastrophic. Children especially suffer disproportionately. More Nepalese children than ever in the country's history are losing their childhood as a result of this conflict. The tragedy is compounded when the orphaned children without their family support are forced to become domestic servants; fall victim to child labour under hazardous conditions in brick kilns, quarries and wool spinning mills; and sold to brothels for sexual exploitation.
Finding it within you - you know you can:
Although you have not won a lottery yet, or you are struggling to collect money for the down payment (or just made one), or running a successful company (or a struggling start-up), or planning to save for the new born's (or to be born's) college funds, and in addition, you already contribute some (or a significant amount) to a charity - whatever the case may be - we believe that you can find it in your heart to contribute at least "a dollar a month" to support the children impacted by the ongoing civil war in Nepal .
Inspiration - find it in others:
Our mission is to provide support in the areas of health and education to the needy communities in Nepal and to respond to natural disasters. Many Nepalese over the world have found common cause with our mission, and the younger generation have responded with unmatched vigour and enthusiasm. Last year alone, we saw these commitments manifest in the selfless acts by individuals like Suvayu Pant, Anil Thapa and Navin Dhakal.
Suvayu, a high school student in Phillipines, on his own initiative took a two-day fast to raise funds for a Health Post in Mugu. His endeavor of hunger inspired other students in his school and around the world to join him and support him. Similarly, Anil Thapa was the sole Nepali to run Reykjavik Marathon - 42 km in Iceland for the Mugu Health Post. In Canada, Navin Dhakal touched everyone's soul when he completed a 56 km walk and run despite the injured ankle acquired during his practice. He raised $2,700 for the Help Nepal Health Post in Mugu. In addition, Nabin Subba, the young director/producer lent us his creation "Numafung" which helped us raise more than $6000 in the US.
This year, Sapna Shakya and Ramyata Limbu, another young director/producer have lent us their award-winning documentary "Daughters of Everest" to help raise funds for supporting the children impacted by the ongoing war. Yes, this year, without taking sides and finger-pointing, we are working to raise funds for the Conflict Impacted Children (CIC). While we are receiving a lot of help, there is still a lot more we need to do. We do need your support and the support of each and every Nepali.

Strategy
The strategy to realise our goal will be two-pronged:
A) HeNN is collaborating with a UK registered charity Nepal Balbalika Trust (NBT) to build a residential shelter for conflict impacted children. NBT will focus on raising funds for the shelter through its ambitious ‘World’s Highest Gig’ (www.worldshighestgig.com) 5545m up the Mount Everest. HeNN will provide the necessary logistical backup to implement the project in Nepal.
HeNN has already reached an understanding with a school at Dhulikhel in the outskirts of Kathmandu to secure land for free to build the shelter. “This will be a place for around 50 children facing crisis to find refuge, develop an education and learn skills that will enable them to socially readjust in a safe and caring environment,” says the Chairman of the NBT, Mr Oz Bayldon
B) As we work on this major project, which will take some time to accomplish, HELP NEPAL Network will identify grassroots efforts from individuals and organisations who have demonstrated admirable commitment to support CIC on their own initiative. HeNN, through its separate fund-raising activities, will continue to assist such activities.
C) At the same time, HeNN has also developed a Bhai-Bahini programme. Bhai-Bahini literally means ‘Brother and Sister’ in Nepali.
Under the programme, a child of Nepali origin or any child in the world will support a child impacted by conflict until they become capable of living their own lives and support themselves financially.
Bhai-Bahini programme will help your child
100 % of your donation/contribution will go to the child that you support. Your donation will qualify for tax exemption in US as HeNN USA is a Federal Tax exempt non profit 501c (3) organization. Similarly, HeNN UK, HeNN Australia and HeNN Nepal also hold registered charity status.
We implore you to consider making a donation to help this cause. If you would like to have further information, please write to us on admin@helpnepal.net. Please help. If you don’t, who will?
